KicKee Pants' EB Awareness Donation Campaign // Henry Peacock
This is Henry. He is 2 1/2 years old and was born May 25th, 2013. At 4 days old he was diagnosed with Epidermolysis Bullosa(EB). Since then, it has been a long and rough journey. My husband, John, and I didn't know what EB was when Henry was diagnosed. We researched and found only terrible news. We thought our little man was going to die. We cried every day. But every day we were blessed with our sweet little mans smile.
In the beginning, we had to change his bandages every day. Now, he only has to be wrapped when he has open wounds. In November 2013 he was diagnosed with EB Simplex. The doctors told us that it was on the worse end of it. We also learned that Henry has blisters on every layer of his skin. This makes it very difficult to drain the blisters because we don't know how far down it goes. EB causes him a lot of pain, but it doesn't stop him from running around and being a normal toddler.
He can only wear soft clothing due to how fragile his skin is. Other clothes rub on his skin causing tearing and blisters. He can sometimes wear shoes, but we buy them in bigger sizes due to his feet being bandaged and as not to cause rubbing when he is in just socks.
Henry is a very active and smart boy. He has an older brother, Stanley, who he adores and loves so much.(Stanley doesn't have EB) They play ball and race cars together just like other brothers would do.
Henry doesn't let EB hold him back. He goes fishing with his pap and likes to help his daddy in the garage. He enjoys grocery shopping with his mommy too. I've chosen to focus on all the good with Henry and all that he has accomplished. Yes, EB is a horrible condition, but we, as a family, will always see the good.
